Decantation-All That You Need To Know

Sediment is formed when tannins and other particles in wine harden. Sediments must be removed from wine because they can alter the taste of wine. Sediment formation may take up to eight years. Wine decantation is the process of removing sediment from wine. Wine is simply poured from its bottle into a decanter, which filters out the sediment.
